Political relations

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan were established on June 15, 1999.

On August 8, 2016 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan non-resident, Oleg Ivanov, presented his Credentials to the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani.

On October 2, 2017 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus non-resident, Abdul Qayyum Kochai, presented his Credentials to the President of the Republic of Belarus.

The working meetings of the Presidents of Belarus and Afghanistan were held within the framework of the SCO and BRICS sessions in Ufa (Russia) in July 2015, the President of Belarus with the Chief Executive of Afghanistan A.Abdullah in April 2016 at the OIC summit in Istanbul.

On June 22, 2015, the President of Belarus met with the Afghanistan president’s special envoy on the CIS states M.Kargar. As a result of the meeting, the Belarusian Side set up an interdepartmental working group on cooperation with Afghanistan.

On June 12-16, 2016, the parliamentary delegation of Afghanistan headed by Vice Speaker Farhad Sakhi visited Belarus.

On February 16-18, 2017, the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Afghanistan, Assadullah Zamir, paid an official visit to Belarus.

On August 15-17, 2017, the Chief Executive of Afghanistan A.Abdullah paid an official visit to Belarus.
