University of Civil Protection of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Belarus

The University is an educational institution that has 80 years of experience in the training of highly qualified specialists. Today the quality of educational services provided is confirmed by domestic and foreign certificates of compliance.

The University is the basic organization of member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for training personnel in the field of prevention and liquidation of emergency situations, and also has the status of an educational institution for training personnel for law enforcement, firefighting, rescue bodies and special services of member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

Over the past years, the team of scientists of the University has grown significantly: about 40% of employees engaged in teaching activities have the degrees of Doctors and Candidates of Sciences, 36% — academic titles of professors and associate professors. The high scientific potential of the faculty reflects the presence of more than 200 certificates of authorship and patents for inventions.

Intellectual property products of the University scientists are not only actively used in Belarus, but are in demand in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine.

The State Committee on Science and Technology and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus have accredited the University as a scientific organization, which indicates a high level of research work carried out within its walls.

International cooperation is developing consistently. Existing ties with foreign partners are being strengthened. Business contacts are maintained with educational institutions of the near and far abroad countries. The University is a full member of the European Association which unites educational institutions of fire and rescue profile (EFSCA). For achievements in the development of fire education the staff of the educational institution was awarded the Gold Medal of EFSCA in 2015.

Education at the University is in demand among foreign specialists. Since 2003 more than 4 000 foreign specialists from 48 countries have studied at the University. The average number of foreign students is 13% of the total number of the University students.

The University actively cooperates with international organizations, such as Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), International Civil Defense Organization (IHO), Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), European Commission (EC), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and others. Every year, some of them fund the training of representatives of member states and partners of these organizations at the University, either partially or entirely.

Training on educational programs of staff development of the first and second levels of higher education in 4 specialties is organized in 2 branches, 7 faculties, 20 chairs, in adjunctory and doctoral studies of the University, as well as educational programs of postgraduate education in 3 specialties are implemented. The retraining of managers and specialists with higher education on 5 specialties is carried out.

For practical training there is an operational and tactical training ground with an area of 42 hectares. At 34 training sites of the range, a wide range of natural and man-made emergencies are simulated in conditions as close to real as possible.
