Political relations

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan were established on June 15, 1999.

On August 8, 2016 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan non-resident, Oleg Ivanov, presented his Credentials to the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani.

The working meetings of the Presidents of Belarus and Afghanistan were held within the framework of the SCO and BRICS sessions in Ufa (Russia) in July 2015 as well as dirung the SCO Summit in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) in June, 2019. The President of Belarus held a working meeting with the Chief Executive of Afghanistan A.Abdullah in April 2016 at the OIC summit in Istanbul.

In June, 2015 the President of Belarus met with the Afghanistan President’s special envoy on the CIS states M.Kargar.

In August, 2017 the Chief Executive of Afghanistan A.Abdullah paid an official visit to Belarus.

In October, 2018 Belarusian Prime Minister Sergey Rumas met the Chief Executive of Afghanistan A.Abdullah during the meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government held in Dushanbe.
